A resident of flood-affected Bajali district spoke to reporters on the situation in the state. “It is raining continuously and we do not have proper shelter. During this we are facing many difficulties. There is a shortage of food and drinking water, there is no means even to go to the market to buy goods.
Brahmaputra river flowing above danger level
The Meteorological Department has warned of more rain and storm in different parts of the state. The Central Water Commission in one of its reports said that the Brahmaputra river is flowing above its danger level. Puthimari and Pagladiya rivers flowing in Kamrup and Nalbari districts have crossed their red mark. The Regional Meteorological Department has issued a paleo alert on Saturday. Roads, bridges and other structures have been damaged in Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Thubri, Goalpara, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Majuli and Nalwadi. Erosion was observed in Baksa, Vishwanath, Bongaigaon, Chirag, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Udalguri and Tamulpur districts.
