political life
Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee voluntarily entered politics with the aim of awakening the light. Dr. Mukherjee was a worshiper and theorist of humanity in true sense. With the help of many non-Congress Hindus, he formed a progressive alliance with the Krishak Praja Party. He became the finance minister in this government. At the same time, he was attracted to Savarkar's nationalism and joined the Hindu Mahasabha.
The environment of Bengal was being polluted by the politics of the Muslim League. There was a situation of communal division. The British government was encouraging the communal people. In such odd circumstances, he took it upon himself to ensure that the Hindus of Bengal were not neglected. With his distinctive strategy, he completely foiled the Muslim League's attempts to partition Bengal. In 1942, the British government put all the big and small leaders of different political parties in jails.
Dr. Mukherjee was a strong supporter of the notion that culturally we are all one. That's why he was a staunch opponent of partition on the basis of religion. They believed that the situation related to partition was due to historical and social reasons. He believed that the fundamental truth is that we are all one. There is no difference between us. We are all of the same blood. We have one language, one culture and one heritage. But these views of his were propagated in a different way by the then leaders of other political parties. Despite this, immense love and support for him increased in the hearts of the people. In August, 1946, the Muslim League took the path of war and there was a fierce barbaric inhuman massacre in Calcutta. At that time the Congress leadership was collectively terrorised.
