New Delhi / Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has scoffed at his nephew Amit Pawar's suggestion that he should retire from active politics. He said he would continue working as party workers wanted him to continue working. When asked about Ajit's remarks, Pawar said, "Do you know at what age Morani Desai became prime minister? I don't want to be prime minister or a minister, but want to serve the people." Ajit Pawar said in his remarks that At the age of 83, the time has come for his uncle to retireClaiming that he is not down yet, Sharad Pawar quoted the words of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, "Na thake hue hain, na revanvirt hue hai." In an interview to a private news channel, Pawar said who are the ones asking me to retire? I can still work but I am retired."

Responding to a question on the succession war in the family after Ajit Pawar's remarks that he was sidelined because he was nobody's (Sharad Pawar's) son, the veteran politician said, I don't want to say anything, I don't like to discuss family issues outside the family.

Pawar said that Ajit was made a minister and also deputy chief minister, but his daughter Supriya Sule was not given any ministerial berth, whereas it could have been possible. He said that whenever the NCP got a ministerial berth at the Centre, it was given to others, but Supriya did not get it despite being an MP.
